The closure of time-honored brands continues!  Winter has passed, but Hong Kong’s catering industry has not yet “changed its season”, “Old San Yang“, which has been in business for more than 40 years, announced its closure, and the public felt sad to part with it.

When talking about hairy crabs, Jiahu rice dumplings, Jinhua ham, Ningbo sweet dumpling etc., people naturally think of Old San Yang, a time-honored Hainanese brand in Deng Lung Street, Causeway Bay.  However, the boss has decided to retire and is currently working hard to clear out the goods.  The announcement did not disclose the specific closing date, and it will be closed when the goods are sold out.

Following the Pak Sha Road branch last year, the last Old San Yang also decided to “retire after success”, which means that this time-honored brand will officially bid farewell to Hong Kong.  Old San Yang has been managed by the Qi family for many years and specializes in Shanghai specialties, among them hairy crabs are the most talked about.  Every crab season, the Qi family will also analyze the “crab market” as an expert and teach the public how to choose beautiful crabs.  The gathering has come to an end, managing Director Qi Yufeng emphasized that the store is a heritage property and has nothing to do with rent or business, “I am well into my 60s, can’t I retire?”  She just wants to keep a low profile and describe it as “an honorable shut down, a scenery burial”, worthy for the founder, her father Qi Guangnan.
